Summer Camp Season Opens at the Aquarium

A variety of camps for all ages are offered throughout the summer
Newport, Oregon- Summer camp season is about to get underway at the Oregon
Coast Aquarium with a variety of fascinating and fun day camps for all age
groups and families. Children, young adults and families can choose one or
more camps that include activities like boat trips, shrimp slurping,
seining, games and crafts.
Throughout the summer, Aquarium camps run Monday through Friday. Each day,
campers are dropped off at the Aquarium at 9 am and picked up at 3 pm (or
noon for pre-schoolers). Campers are asked to bring a bag lunch and snack
for a day of exploring the Aquarium, meeting husbandry staff and getting
close to the animals. For more information or to register call (541)

June 19 Sea Squirts: Pond Pals, 2 &3 yr. olds with parents
Explore what lives behind the log, sneaks through the grass and swims under
the water of your friendly neighborhood pond. Discover why frogs, bugs, and
fish call this wet wonderland their home.
June 22 - 26 Oceans of Fun, Ages 4 & 5
The ocean is filled with some of the tiniest to the most enormous animals on
this planet. Find out how humans size up to critters while exploring the
aquarium, singing songs, playing games and making aquatic works of art.
June 29 - July 3 Water Worlds, Grades 1 & 2 (entering these grades fall
2009)
Through bay and estuary exploration, water investigations, arts and crafts,
and behind-the-scenes encounters with aquarium animals, campers will learn
what it is like to live in a world where they can move in any direction.
July 3 Family Adventure Travel Camp, Ages 6 and up
Families explore the best the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Go beach
seining, take a wildlife-boat trip, come up close and personal with Aquarium
animals, go on a scavenger hunt and sleep with the sharks.
July 3 Family Sleepover, Ages 7 and up
Fall asleep to the sights of the sharks and fish swimming overhead in the
Passages of the Deep tunnels. Educators take campers on a scavenger hunt and
provide a fun and hands-on experience. Dinner, snack, and light breakfast
are included.
July 6-10 Eco-Explorers, Grades 3 - 4 (entering these grades fall of 2009)
Campers learn about their relationship with the ocean as they explore the
bay, estuary, and open ocean, go behind the scenes at the Aquarium for close
encounters with animals and participate in hands-on-activities.
July 13-17 Youth Adventure Travel Camps, Grades 7 - 9
Campers explore the Oregon coast and learn about life cycles. Kayak to a
beaver lodge, go on the ocean in search of the grey whale and delve into a
tide pool.
July 13-17 Oceanology, Grades 5 - 6
Discover what’s happening at the Aquarium and local estuaries while learning
all about the ocean’s many habitats. Campers will get their hands dirty and
feet wet trekking through the mud collecting creatures and investigating
animals in the Aquarium.
July 17 Sea Squirts: Backyard Detectives, 2 &3 yr. olds with parents
Campers will learn all about what’s in their own backyard, from butterflies
to bunnies. Educators will lead campers in a romp around the Aquarium to
find some of the hidden animals of the Aquarium’s outdoor world.
July 20-24 Youth Adventure Travel Camp, Grades 4 - 6
Explore the Oregon coast in search of predator-prey relationships.
Tidepools, sandy beach, estuary, forest and the open ocean (by boat) are
just a few ecosystems visited.
July 20 - 24 Oceans of Fun, Ages 4 & 5
Search for baby animals in the bay and estuary, encounter some of the
Aquarium’s younger residents, sing songs, play games, and make aquatic works
of art.
July 27 - 31 Water Worlds, Grades 1 and 2
Through hands-on investigation, outdoor exploration, games, art, and animal
encounters, campers will learn to compare animals on land to the animals of
the sea.
August 3 - 7 Eco-Explorers, Grades 3 - 4
Campers learn about their relationship with the ocean as they explore the
bay, estuary, and open ocean, go behind the scenes at the aquarium to have

exciting hands-on-activities!
August 8 Family Sleepover 6 pm - 9 am Ages 7 and up

games, crafts, and Aquarium visits.

Through hands-on investigation, outdoor exploration, games, art, and animal
encounters, campers will learn to compare animals on land to the animals of
the sea.
August 24 - 28 Aquarium Internship Camp, Grades 10 - 12
Learn how to give a dental exam to a 500 pound California sealion or to feed
a five foot shark. Campers will go behind the scenes at the Aquarium and
discover if they have what it takes to work with animals at an aquarium.
September 4 Family Adventure Travel Camp, Ages 6 and up
A chance to go kayaking, tidepooling, exploring behind-the-scenes at the
Aquarium, sleeping with the sharks and more.
September 4 Family Sleepover, Ages 7 and up
